Confessional Movement  

John Berryman October 25, 1914- January 7, 2972  American poet and scholar born in McAlester, Oklahoma.  Best known works are his series of The Dream Songs.  Confessional poetry era.  Poems usually derived from the details of his personal problems.  

Dream Song 100: How This Woman Came by the Courage. In this poem, Berryman uses an analogy to compare his mother to a "superhuman" Describes her in this way because she put up with indignities for seventy years. "Dies a death for two"
