Monday, December 1st and Tuesday, December 2nd 10th Literature Standard 1, 2, 3 Anthem Reading Quiz Weeeeeee! Activity Socratic Circle Self and Peer Evaluation You will be evaluating the person next to you. Turn in the level questions and answers that you wrote. Also, complete and turn in your reflection. Literary Analysis Lesson and Notes Read the introduction and author’s forward to Anthem Next class, we will be drafting our essays and reviewing for the test. I want you to have a thesis statement prepared for one of the prompts by next class.

Reading Quiz Summarize chapter 7 – 12 in at least five complete and detailed sentences.

WEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! Quick refresher: Pronouns are words that stand for other words. Examples: he, she, you, I, they, them, we, etc. Turn to a partner. Decide who will go first. The first partner has one minute to describe his/her Thanksgiving break. The other partner can ask questions if necessary. The trick: the only pronoun you can use is “we.” After one minute, the second partner will have one minute to do the same.

Literary Analysis Essay Mrs. Tollison San Marcos High School

The Steps to a Good Essay: 1. Attack the Prompt to know what I am supposed to write about. 2. Determine what material I will use for evidence. Write down the quote, who said it, what page it is on so that you can cite your source. 3. Create a thesis statement. 4. Write an outline. 5. Write the body paragraphs. Be sure to use parenthetical citations. 6. Write the introduction. 7.Write the conclusion. 8. Write your works cited page. 9. Properly format your paper (MLA). 10. Edit and Revise your paper. Created by Barbara Tollison

Attack The Prompt Many people say that the society in which we live is not too far away from the society that Ayn Rand presents in Anthem. Write an essay in which you first explain the political philosophies that are most represented in Anthem (use specific quotes and paraphrases from Anthem to back up your response), then explain how those philosophies compare to the society in which we currently live (use specific examples from society to explain). Writing a Good Thesis Statement The thesis statement tells your reader what to expect: it is a restricted, precisely worded declarative sentence that states the purpose of your essay -- the point you are trying to make. Without a carefully conceived thesis, an essay has no chance of success. PLEASE NOTE: THE BEST PLACE TO PUT YOUR THESIS STATEMENT IS AT THE END OF YOUR INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH Created by Barbara Tollison
