Presentation transcript:

Mrs. Jensen’s News January 2nd – January 4th, 2019 We are learning! We read animal stories this week. We focused on sequencing and the main characters. Before taking a book walk, we studied the front covers to see if we could determine who the main character(s) were. We were fooled when we read A BED FOR THE WINTER! Ask your child about the bear on the cover and who the main character actually ended up being (dormouse). We studied the letter Ii & Ee and their sounds. We identified objects that had these sounds in the beginning, middle and end of words. Those middle sounds sure can be tricky! We worked on several sight words: he, for, she, yes, we & me. Give your child a sticky and see how many sight words they can find in a book, around the house, … etc. Make it fun as they hunt! Send the sticky back to school and we can share the words with the class. In our journals, we are focusing on using capital letters at the beginning of sentences and punctuation at the end. We are also trying to write more than 1 sentence and leaving space in between words. December journals will go home next week. In math, we continued working on measurement. We used 5-sticks to compare objects that were shorter or longer. We went on a hunt to find shorter than and longer than objects and shared them with the class. We need more boxes of graham crackers for snack time. If possible, please send a box or two with your child next week. Important Dates ***Jan. 9th (Wed.) Weather Permitting Kindergarten will be going sledding for gym. The classes will walk to the sledding hill at 2:15 and return at 3:05. Your child will need all their warm gear! If you’d like to join your child, please meet at the community center sledding hill. Your child may bring a sled from home (labeled). NO SNOWBOARDS. Jan. 16th – Early Out @ 1:20 Jan. 21st – No School Homework Practice the sight words and read the story Tim the Pig. Encourage your child to write sentences using the sight words they know. Be “sound detectives” and listen for the /i/ & /e/ sound at the beginning and end of words. Practice counting objects and recognizing numbers to 20. Work on counting back from 20.
