TEEB Training Why is Valuation important? A faulty compass –The valuation of extractive (non-conservation) alternatives is routine –Omitting values can lead to outcomes: ( i) reduces societal wellbeing (ii) disproportionately affects the poor But if the compass is corrected…. ©TEEB

TEEB Training Module Goal To have an understanding of how to value changes in the state of ecosystems and the limitations of these valuation methodologies ©TEEB

TEEB Training Learning Outcomes Categorise elements of ecosystem service values within a decision-making context Identify stakeholders that are affected by changes in ecosystem services brought about by the decision Assess and select the appropriate method(s) to measure these values and who can undertake valuation Identify and appraise existing estimates of these values and what adjustments are needed Recognise and address limitations of valuation and barriers to acceptance ©TEEB
