Proposed level 1 & 2 ToC for Section 18 18 Support for Self Organizing Networks SON functions are intended for MS, and all types of BSs (e.g. macro, relay, Femto) to automate the configuration of BS / MS parameters and to optimize the network performance, coverage, and capacity. The scope of SON is limited to the measurement and reporting of over-the-air performance metrics, and the subsequent adjustments of BS / MS parameters. 18.1 Self-configuration Self-configuration is the process of bringing up network elements automatically with minimum human intervention. 18.2 Self-optimization Self-optimization is the process of analyzing the reported SON measurements from the BS / MS and utilizing them to fine-tuning the BS / MS parameters in order to optimize the network performance, coverage, and capacity.
