2 UL Pilot Evaluation: 6x6 tile

3 Simulation Setting eITU channel, with half lambda spacing in Tx, 4 lambda spacing at Rx. MIMO scheme: 2x2 2 streams collaborative MIMO Pilot boosting is 3dB per stream for all patterns Same power combined with Null Noise limited case only 2% subcarrier spacing and +/- 1/8 CP timing offset. Perfect noise estimation

4 Key Observations Intel, Huawei-D and Cairo University have exactly the same 6x6 pilot pattern. MediaTek, LGE and Nortel have similar pilot patterns MeidaTek has same pattern as LGE with the second pair of pilot flipped MeidaTek used a rotated/shifted version of Nortel 6x6 pilot For MMSE channel estimation, Samsung's pattern is very unstable since it use 2 pilot per stream. For MMSE channel estimation, Huawei C, NSN and Postdata (old pattern) have slightly inferior performance than others All others are good performance. For MMSE channel estimation, Intel/HuaweiD/CairoU, MediaTek and LGE are among the best

5 eITU PB3, 2x2 SM, MMSE CE

6 eITU PB3, 2x2 SM, MMSE CE

7 eITU VA120, 2x2 SM, MMSE CE

8 eITU VA120, 2x2 SM, MMSE CE

9 Conclusions: UL 18x6 pilot patterns should reuse the DL 18x6 pilot patterns Please refer to C80216m-08_847r2.ppt for 18x6 DL pilot performance comparison and summary UL 6x6: Pilot patterns from Intel/HuaweiD/CairoU, MediaTek and LGE are among the best (with similar performance) and can be recommended for UL 6x6 pilot design.

10 UL Pilot Proposal : Use same DL pilot pattern + 6x6 pilot
6x6 pilot: TBD
