TED Talk Thursday: Why are Tragedies so Alluring As you watch the TED-ED Video, respond to the prompts on the handout.

Othello/Shakespeare pre-assessment

Intro to Othello and Shakespearean language 1st Read, 2nd Read, 3rd Read Small Groups: What’s going on in this section? Ask ?s about anything. Whole Group: Who are Roderigo & Iago? What kind of people are they? What does each seem to want from the other? Who’s in control? What has just happened? Who is Brabantio? What kind of person is he? What about Othello? What about Desdemona?

Breaking it down Roderigo: Tush, never tell me! I take it much unkindly That thou, Iago, who hast had my purse As if the strings were thine, shouldst know of this. Iago: Sblood, but you’ll not hear me! If ever I did dream of such a matter, abhor me! Roderigo: Thou tolds’t me thou didst hold him in thy hate. Iago: Despise me If I do not.

After completing the pre-assessment, respond to the Reflection questions Consider Shakespearean Language (from today’s script reading and the pre-assessment you just took) and how you approach it. Things you feel confident about? Challenges? How will you face the challenges and work to overcome them?
