Presentation transcript:

Warm-Up: Test Yourself (p. 47) What does it mean to “cite” a source? Why is it important to cite your sources used in a paper? What are the consequences for plagiarizing an essay at school? In one sentence, summarize what you know so far about your topic. Why are we doing a research project about these topics?

Timeline of your Research Project…FYI Thursday: Use another article to write a second body paragraph. By EOD, complete two body paragraphs. Friday: View video clips related to your topic; use these to write your third body paragraph. Monday: Write an introduction and a conclusion. Tuesday: Edit and put it all together for a complete essay. Wednesday: Prepare visuals and presentations. Thursday: Present and learn.

Today’s Task Read your assigned article on your topic. Use the templates for body paragraphs to draft your second body paragraph. Make sure your first body paragraph is completed (complete this today if you haven’t already). Edit/proofread your drafts. Try to make them as perfect as you can on your own. Check yourself: Are you using transition words to move from one thought to the next? Do you have a topic sentence that shows clearly what you’re discussing in that paragraph? Did you cite your evidence and textual support by integrating it into your sentences? Did you include facts from the research you did online? Do you have a concluding sentence for each paragraph?

Summarizer – Peer Edits Trade paragraphs with someone sitting next to you. Read through their writing. Provide constructive feedback using post-it notes.
