Chromosomes (Eukaryotic DNA Structure). When the cell is not dividing, DNA is long and stringy and called chromatin.
Karyotype Notes. A karyotype is a “ picture ” of a person ’ s chromosomes. Each person has 46 chromosomes, in 23 pairs. Pairs 1-22 are called Autosomes.

Diseases Vocabulary

Word/Picture Teacher Definition Your Definition

Disease An abnormal or incorrect function of the body caused by bacteria, viruses or abnormal DNA.

Gene Disorder A disease caused by mutations in one or both copies of a gene, causing incorrect proteins to be made. Chromosome Pair 11 (~2093 genes)

Chromosome Disorder A disease caused by having extra or missing chromosomes which causes interference in DNA instructions.

Karyotype A picture of all chromosomes lined up in homologous pair from longest to shortest with sex chromosomes last.
