EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION CODE: UWB 10202 / UMB 1052 LEARNING ACTIVITIES: LECTURES (2 HOURS X 14 WEEKS = 28 HOURS) TUTORIAL (1 HOUR X 14 WEEKS = 14 HOURS)

PREREQUISITE SUBJECTS MUET BAND 3 or UWB 10101 EAP

SYNOPSIS This course emphasises on task-based learning approach and focuses on developing students’ delivery of speech in oral interactions and presentations. Importance is given on mastery of self-directed learning, teamwork, research, oral presentations, reasoning and creativity. This course also enables students to acquire knowledge and skills necessary for conducting and participating in meetings, including writing of meeting documents. Students will also be exposed to interview techniques.

GOALS To develop oral and written English language competence for use in a wide range of contexts. To cultivate collaboration among people of various cultures and professional backgrounds. To develop lifelong learning skills for continuous personal and professional development.

LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of this course, the students should be able to: Participate actively in meetings using appropriate meeting conventions. Write relevant meeting documents using accurate language and format. Conduct interview using appropriate procedure and language. Deliver oral presentations using current technology confidently.
