3 Course organisation Monographic course (Giglioni): lectures, 2 hours each, in the second semester (2 days/week) Language training classes (King/Potter): classes, 2 hours each, in the second semester (2days/week) 3

1) advancing students’ foreign language competence (4 skills) 2) Focus on ESP (English for Specific Purposes) special discourses and genres (also) in institutional contexts. 4

7 B2: Vantage or Upper-Intermediate
Can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. 7 7

Written language test : Testing grammar and vocabulary: - cloze test (exercise in which the participant is given a sentence or passage with certain words removed) - dictation Oral language test: Short interview (selected readings) 16

I Testing listening skills (info trasfer) II Testing course contents (special discourses and genres + language awareness) N.B: interim tests provided to substitute for these parts: strongly recommended!!!!! 17

18 Interim test I(listening)
Info tranfer in a set of notes If you cannot take this interim test or do not pass it, you will do it when you take the oral exam 18

19 - closed and semi-closed questions lasting about 30 minutes
Interim test II (special discourses and genres, word formation, word classes, phonetics) - closed and semi-closed questions lasting about 30 minutes If you cannot take interim test or do not pass it, you will be examined on the pertinent contents when you take the oral exam 19
