Do Now 8/24/15 Write your name on your folder. Objective(s): 1. Students will contribute ideas to develop a class rule and learn and practice class procedures. 2. Students will work collaboratively to illustrate and present their ideas. Write your name on your folder. Read the objective and write it down on a blank piece of paper in your folder. Answer the following questions about our objective and write your answers in your folder: What are you learning? Why are you learning it? How will you know if you learned it or not?

Daily review and lesson introduction Questions to think about and discuss: 1. What behavior expectations have you experienced in the past at school? Do you think these expectations make sense? Do you think they are fair? Why or why not? 2. How do you think teachers should treat students? Students treat each other? Students treat teachers? 3. What are our goals as a class? What are we trying to accomplish? What kind of environment will help us accomplish our goals? CLASS DISCUSSION

Your Assignment 1. Work a partner to write the one most important rule for this class this year. *Please be serious. If students have good ideas, I will actually turn them into real rules! You and your partner are going to make a poster. On one side you are going to write your rule, and on the other side you will illustrate it. We are going to present our ideas tomorrow in class, so please be prepared to explain your choices during your presentation. Think about: Why did we choose this rule? What makes it MOST important? If everyone follows our rule, what kind of class will we have? If everyone follows our rule, will we be able to meet our goals? Why or why not? 5. Write notes (at least 5 sentences) that you and your partner can use during your presentation. IF you have time, practice your presentation.

Ticket out What are your goals for this class? What are you hoping to accomplish? What grade to you hope you will get? What steps can to take to make it happen? Respond with 3 – 5 well-written, complex sentences.

Your Assignment Create a chart with two columns to evaluate presentations. On one side, write down the presenter’s name, and on the other side write one sentence about their presentation based on the criteria in the scoring guide: TONE, PACING, VOLUME and CONTENT. Good example: Their pacing was really good, because they didn’t go too fast or too slow. Not-so-good example: I didn’t like it because it was boring.

Ticket out Did you complete our objective today? Explain. Respond with 3 – 5 well-written, complex sentences.
