Napoleon’s Mistakes Sets up blockade around Britain Purpose = make continental Europe more self-sufficient Blockade not as successful as hoped Britain blockades France Stronger navy = greater success Forces ships to travel to Britain before France Ships are inspected and taxed – one reason for War of 1812 between U.S. & Britain

Napoleon’s Mistakes Sends army through Spain to get to Portugal Removes Spanish king & makes brother king Spanish resist – use guerrilla warfare Small groups of soldiers Hit and run tactics Nationalistic feelings work against Napoleon
