A closer look at each of the Four Specialty Areas Family & consumer Sciences: All Aspects of Industry Food & Nutrition Human Development Fashion/Interior Design Career & Financial courses Work-based opportunities

Career Exploration Internship Program Portfolio development 54 worksite hours required 27 classroom hours required

Cooperative Work Experience (1/2 or 1 credit) Must be enrolled concurrently in a Family & Consumer Sciences course. 150 completed paid work hours = 1/2 credit 300 completed paid work hours = 1 credit

Preschool Education Experience (1 credit) Portfolio Development 10 week preschool classroom experience OCC 3 credit available (EDU 182)

School-Age Education Experience (1 credit) Portfolio Development 10 week elementary/middle school classroom experience OCC 3 credits available (EDU 170)

Food & Nutrition Total of 5 units must be earned in Food & Nutrition content strand Third science credit can be achieved through successful completion of Food Science A & B. AAFCS National Assessment currently being piloted

Human Development A total of 5 units must be earned in a Human Development content strand AAFCS National Assessment in Early Childhood Ed. & Educational Foundations & Family & Community Services are currently available Possible 6 OCC credits available for successful completion of: School-Age Psychology and School-Age Education Experience (EDU 170) Preschool Psychology and Preschool Education Experience (EDU 182)

Fashion / Interior Design Total of 5 units must be earned in Fashion & Interior Design content strand. AAFCS National Assessment in Fashion, Textiles, & Apparel and Interior Design Fundamentals are currently available AAFCS National Assessment in Housing and Furnishings is in the development process 3 Cazenovia college credits available

Family and Consumer Sciences: All Aspects of Industry A total of 5 units must be earned in a combination of all 3 content strands Must complete a minimum of 1/2 credit in each of the FACS content strands. Remaining credits are selected from any of the strands of Family and Consumer Sciences specialty areas. AAFCS National Assessment in Broad Field Family and Consumer Sciences is currently available.
