Prom night. High school crush. Fade in to the sunset Prom night. High school crush. Fade in to the sunset. These are phrases that every high school girl understands. My high school expectations were similar. I was going to prom. I was going with my high school crush. In my mind, we were going to fade into the sunset. That was until my date didn’t show up. No, that isn’t accurate; he didn’t even stay in the country for prom night! In the early hours of ACHS prom, 1997, I would have never guessed I’d have been stood up by my date and would be left to go to prom with my best friend Brittany. Thursday Paragraph one Use “Tights and Camo” as a guide Use yellow outline *Include a hook/grab *Include one example of imagery *Include the setting, characters.

Paragraph Two “What time should I come over and start getting ready?” Brittany had been my best friend since elementary school. She hadn’t been asked to prom but promised to help me get ready and would be meeting me at the dance portion of the night. “Come over around 3.” By 3 I was pulling up to Brittany’s house with my prom dress, make up and shoes. She had a great sense of fashion and would help me look my best for my high school crush. Brittany was the best, most supportive friend a girl could have. By five o’clock I was back home, looking so great in my pink, long, tight-fitting prom dress and waiting for the boy of my dreams to pick me up at 6PM. More description into characters, setting Use imagery! At least 3 examples Precise word choice for mood and tone Varied sentence structure Include at least one example of dialogue

Paragraph Three By six I was back at my house, dressed in the most beautiful pink prom dress, feeling like Cinderella. My date was fifteen minutes late. “Why don’t you call and check on him” stated my mom. She and I were waiting patiently and hadn’t heard from him. His mom answered “he is gone for the weekend. Was prom tonight?” I felt sick to my stomach, like a pathetic person not worth showing up for. After an hour of crying, I called Brittany to tell her the sad news. Within minutes she was at my house, picking me up in her yellow VW bug. “Let’s go together!” Such a great idea, and what I desperately needed after being stood up. It was in that moment I knew that best friends were so important and will be there through it all. Imagery- at least 3 (different senses) Dialogue Complex sentence structure Slowly wrap up your story- stay on the narrow topic Character descriptions CLEARLY STATE WHAT YOU LEARNED!

Dinner and ACHS prom night for 1997 was a success Dinner and ACHS prom night for 1997 was a success. Although it didn’t end with my high school crush fading with me into the sunset, Brittany made the night memorable and special. She was there for me when I was at my lowest and I will always remember that best friends are needed and special in my life. Info: Print out and bring a copy to turn in tomorrow! Check spelling and grammar. If you don’t have a computer, hand-write Library open for use starting 7AM-3PM OR email to me! No reasons why… Paragraph four Wrap up your experience Restate your setting, characters Restate your learning moment again, AS WELL in paragraph three Leave NOTHING open-ended Need earbuds tomorrow!!!

Friday- self review BEFORE turning in essay for grading. Use the 10 elements for a personal narrative from your blue handout. Highlight and label EACH in your text. Follow the example below.
