Passion and Civility Debate Scheduler Yvonne Uwah St. Edward’s University Computer Science - Spring 2014 Objective The purpose of this project was to create a web-based scheduling system that allowed participants in the Passion and Civility Debate tournament at St. Edward’s University to input the available days and times that they are free to participate in a debate. Administrators could then easily view matching times to assist in scheduling participants for the debate tournament. Sequence Diagram Administrator Side Login Administrator Use Case Administrators select the days that a debate can take place, as well as what times they will occur. They can also create both student and judge accounts. Once added to the database, participants are then emailed their login information. After participants submit their available times, administrators can view the various times they are available for a debate. Participant Creation Form In this form an administrator creates judge and student participant accounts. Debate Calendar Form Submit Participant Participant Use Case After receiving login credentials, participants can view what days and times the debate tournaments will take place. Participants can select from these days and times and submit which ones they are available to participate in a debate tournament. Participant Login Now an administrator can easily view when participants are available at specific days and times. Submit Form Availability Form Previous Solution In the past, participant’s schedules were imported into multiple Excel spreadsheets. When printed out, these spreadsheets would often exceed 10 feet! An administrator would look through the massive file and group debate matches by hand. Because of this, the process of scheduling participants for a debate would take a minimum of six hours to complete.
