Lapeer Community Schools Regular Meeting June 13, 2013 6-9 Configuration Lapeer Community Schools Regular Meeting June 13, 2013

Process Review March 21, 2013 Board Meeting – Removed issue from Strategic Plan restructuring vote April 22, 2013 – Task Force Meeting #1 at RW Conference calls with area superintendents Meetings with K-12 administrators Staff Survey District PTC meeting Meetings with Transportation Department May 29, 2013 – Task Force Meeting #2 at Zemmer June 13, 2013 – Final Recommendation

Task Force Meetings Topics discussed and considered when comparing the two models (6/7-8/9 or two 6-9) What’s working in our secondary program? Transitions and Relationships Transportation Role of Extra-curricular activities Academic Options and Stretch Opportunities

Highlights from Task Force work One Lapeer concept was a central theme Great discussion around the issue of transitions Focusing our efforts on incorporation of 9th grade into the high school program Maintenance and expansion of the teaming concept Select the option that best supports the district’s new theme of extended stretch and support Logistics should not drive the decision Transportation was a significant consideration

Recommendation Rolland-Warner will serve as the 6/7 facility Zemmer will serve as the 8/9 facility Positives One Lapeer concept Easier to focus on college/career readiness for 8/9 grades under one roof Continuity and vertical alignment of programming Same stretch and support opportunities available Linkage of 8/9 start time and program with LHS Legitimate community voice helped shape this plan
