Preliminaries What are some activities you remember about your grandparents?

Objectives The students will be able to define fist person point of view. The students will be able to evaluate how effective the story “An Hour with Abuelo” would be if it were written from the grandfather’s point of view.

Focus Lesson: Point of View Vocabulary: “An Hour with Abuelo” (An Island Like You partner discussion guide p. 10) Pre-Reading: pp. 66-71 in An Island Like You Why doesn’t Arturo want to visit his grandfather? Why is Arturo disappointed in the way his grandfather has lived? How does his grandfather feel? Reading: pp. 65-71 in An Island Like You Small Groups: create a collage about the message and feeling in the story.
