Dear Families: Today your child is bringing home a homework bag containing their Reading Recovery homework. In the homework bag you will find: An envelope with a cut up sentence A book for your child to read You can help your child at home by doing the following: Cut-up Sentence Work Listen to your child read the complete sentence that I have printed on the envelope. If she/he has forgotten the sentence, tell your child the sentence and have your child repeat it.   Watch your child put the cut-up pieces back into the correct order. She/he may do this with or without the envelope as a guide. After the sentence is put back together, ask your child to check it against the sentence on the envelope to make sure it is correct and have your child read it to you. Please do not use the words as flash cards or expect your child to read the words without the entire sentence being present.  Book Reading Please listen to your child read her/his book(s). If she/he has trouble with a word she/he will use the pictures and sounds to help with problem-solving. Please do not cover the pictures because they are an important source of information for early readers. Please make sure the book is returned to school every day. The sentence does not have to be returned. Sincerely, Created By LiteracyPages
