Working Paper No. WLTP-05-12 Item 5, Overview of key issues of WLTP Phase 1B Cycle/Process: Downscaling/Gearshifting Proposal by H. Steven 04.01.2014 1

Downscaling, current status The downscaling procedure is specified in paragraph 7 of annex 1. The method as such is agreed, but paragraph 7.3 “Determination of the downscaling factor” needs to be amended. India requests modifications of the calculation parameter/coefficients r0, a1 and b1 and made already a proposal for amendments (see WLTP-DHC-18-05). This issue is related to # 5 of WLTP-05-04. Calculation parameter/coefficients for torque meter method should be added (see # 4 of WLTP-05-04). 2

Downscaling, current status Another point that needs clarification is related to paragraph 7.4 of annex 1 “Additional requirements”. The text, that specifies the drive instructions in case the vehicle cannot follow the trace of the downscaled cycle does not exclude the activation of a “kick-down” for automatic transmission vehicles. In addition to that an error in formula 6 of paragraph 7.2.2 of annex 1 needs to be corrected. It should read “with i = 1520 to 1724” instead of “with i = 1520 to 1725”. 3

Downscaling, next steps # 5 of WLTP-05-04 (modifications of r0, a1 and b1): HS will perform calculations based on the Indian amendment proposal, analyse the results and discuss possible compromise proposals with the Indian colleagues (February – March 2014). Validation/verification tests should be performed by India (March - April 2014). After these tests HS will draft an amended text for paragraph 7.3 of annex 1 (May 2014). The possible activation of a “kick-down” for automatic transmission vehicles in case the vehicle cannot follow the trace of the downscaled cycle will be discussed with interested parties. 4

Downscaling, next steps # 4 of WLTP-05-04 (Calculation parameter/coefficients for torque meter method): HS will develop the necessary formulae, discuss them with Japan and deliver an amended text by May 2014. 5

Gearshifting, current status The gearshift prescriptions for manual transmission vehicles are specified in annex 2 of the GTR. The following issues are listed in WLTP-05-04 for further amendments: Special gearboxes or auxiliary gearboxes (e.g. exclusion of “crawler” gears), see # 6 in WLTP-05-04. Addition of formulas based on the torque meter method, see # 7 in WLTP-05-04. Skipping of gears, see # 8 in WLTP-05-04. To point 3 the skipping of the 3 s rule for acceleration phases, the modification of the safety margin for the full load power curve etc. (sailing?) should be added. 6

Gearshifting, current status In addition to that a further point is listed in WLTP-05-04, which should be added to the gearshift prescriptions: Development of gear shift family criteria, see # 9 in WLTP-05-04. The application of regional temperatures should be considered for this point. 7

Gearshifting, next steps # 6 of WLTP-05-04 (special gearboxes or auxiliary gearboxes): HS will perform calculations based on input from the task force to be established, analyse the results and discuss possible proposals with the TF (February – April 2014). The specifications of ECE R 83 (annex 4, paragraph 6.1.3) will be considered. Amended text for annex 2 (May 2014). This time schedule needs to be extended, if validation tests will be necessary. 8

Gearshifting, next steps # 7 of WLTP-05-04 (Addition of formulas based on the torque meter method): HS will develop the necessary formulae, discuss them with the TF and deliver an amended text by July 2014. # 8 of WLTP-05-04 (Skipping of gears etc.): HS will perform calculations based on input from the TF, analyse the results and discuss possible solutions/proposals with the TF (– May 2014). Validation tests (– August 2014). Amended text for annex 2 (September 2014). 9

Gearshifting, next steps # 9 of WLTP-05-04 (Development of gear shift family criteria): The necessary steps for this issue will be drafted after preparatory discussions with Japan. 10
