BE SUPER! Nevin Coppock 1st Grade Weekly Sight Words 8-20-18 Mr. Brown Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Nevin Coppock Elementary! I can’t wait to get another year of first grade started with an amazing new group of students. I’m excited to work with all of you and make it a wonderful year for everyone. Please check out my website to learn more about our classroom and information about myself. Our first theme of the year will revolve around Back to School, Names, and the Alphabet. We will spend a lot of time the first two weeks working on our daily routines and making sure each child understands the expectations for their behavior and work habits. We will also spend lots of time getting to know each other and our new classroom! Nightly Reading: We will start our nightly reading logs on the 3rd week of school. Students will receive a special reading envelope and log that will go home each night and be returned to school each day. We ask that students be involved in reading activities for 30 minutes each night. Each night your child will bring home a leveled book they have selected or a text read together in a guided reading group.   Spelling: We will begin the year by reviewing the 40 Kindergarten sight words. It is important that our students be able to quickly read and write these commonly used words to be successful in 1st grade. Math: Nightly math sheets will come home in the blue student folder that accompany the lesson for the day. These sheets give extra practice on the skills being taught.
