Measurements and Instruments By Hannah O’S and Hannah VY Measurements and Instruments

Anemometer An anemometer is a weather instrument that measures wind speed and direction. Wind is measured in kilometres per hour or in knots.

Barometer It Measures atmospheric pressure. High pressure usually signifies clear weather. Low pressure usually signifies cloudy, rainy weather.

Ceilometers It measures the height of the base of a cloud layer. Ceilometers are very useful at airports.

Hygrometer It measures the amount of humidity in the air.

Rain Gauge It measures the amount of precipitation in millimetres.

Stevenson’s Screen A wooden louvered rectangular box which houses maximum and minimum, wet and dry bulb thermometers.

Sunshine Recorder It measures the duration of sunshine hours.
