Energy

Energy Use Canada is one of the worlds largest users of energy in the world! Why?

Why does Canada use so much? We live in a northern climate Small population spread over a huge land mass (transportation uses lots of energy) Advanced industrial economy Energy is relatively cheap so we waste it

Energy Use by Province

Two Types of Energy sources Conventional Energy – oil, natural gas, coal, hydroelectricity, and nuclear electricity

Two Types of Energy sources Alternative Energy solar, wind, and biomass (wood, straw, poop)

Canada Canadians rely on three types of energy: oil 39%, natural gas 35%, electricity 24%, other 2% (coal, wood, and wind)

How Energy is Used (2005): In 2003 Canada’s total supply of energy was about 10 000 petajoules.
