bell hooks theory of feminism applied to Formation music video. By Alfie and Millie

bell hooks theory of feminism: The idea that feminism is a struggle to end sexist/patriarchal oppression and the ideology of domination And that feminism is a political commitment rather than a lifestyle choice as well as the idea that race and class as well as sex determine the extent to which individuals are exploited, discriminated against or oppressed. “Simply put, feminism is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation,  and oppression. (...). Practically, it is a definition which implies that all sexist  thinking and action is the problem, whether those who perpetuate it are  female or male, child or adult. It is also broad enough to include an  understanding of systemic institutionalized sexism. As a definition it  is open-ended. To understand feminism it implies one has to necessarily  understand sexism.”   -Bell Hooks, Feminism is for everyone: passionate politics.

In 2014 Forbes declared Beyoncé to be the world’s most powerful celebrity, this goes against stereotypes as she's a woman and is described to be one of the most powerful people in the world. Beyonce is clearly a passionate feminist, with her branding around feminist. Her song 'run the world (girls)'  is an empowering feminist song with the lyrics 'who runs the world girls' as well as the fact Her hit single Flawless samples from a TEDx Talk called We Should All Be Feminists by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Beyoncé belts the anthem’s first verse and then cedes the floor to Adichie, who relays the definition of a ‘feminist’ as “the person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes”. It begins with addressing the assault against Beyoncé and her continued success, as people have said is a product of the Illuminati. She dismantles the misogynoir she has faced since singing her heart out in Destiny's Child, and that is if a woman of color is successful, there must be a supernatural driving force behind her.
