BCU Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Guidance Tool NEXT

Welcome to the BCU Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Guidance Tool This tool is designed to support volunteers and deployers within paddlesport clubs fulfil their legal duties by assessing the DBS Check requirements for staff and volunteers in line with the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 NEXT

Understanding the different options A DBS Enhanced Check is a record of all warnings, reprimands, cautions and convictions from local and national police records. Information may also be disclosed at the discretion of the Chief Police Officer if that information is deemed relevant to the role the individual is applying for. A DBS Barred Check is a legal requirement for all individuals applying to work in Regulated Activity. This check will show whether an individual is barred from working with children or adults at risk. It can only be applied for if the person is in regulated activity. NEXT

Using this tool For the purposes of this tool you will be asked a series of questions about the type of activity that you undertake for your organisation. This process should be completed for each role that you hold. NEXT

Are you aged 16 or over?

Will you be carrying out any form of health care provided by, or under the supervision of a regulated health care professional OR any form of personal care (even if the activity is only carried out once)?

Outcome: You require a DBS Enhanced Disclosure and Barred list Check. You cannot carry out this role until a satisfactory DBS Check has been completed NEXT

Will you work with children in any of the following regulated activities? Coaching/Instructing Caring Training Transport of Children Teaching Providing Advice Supervising OR Do you supervise an adult working with children in any of the above regulated activities? to add text

Will you be working with children in a role which involves regularly caring, training, supervising or being in sole charge of children? Within Canoeing, regularly is defined as once a month or engage in an activity at least 6 times in a period of 3 months

You require a DBS Enhanced Disclosure Outcome: You require a DBS Enhanced Disclosure You cannot carry out this role until a satisfactory DBS Check has been completed NEXT

You are not currently eligible for a DBS check Outcome: You are not currently eligible for a DBS check If your role changes, make sure you re-check yourself NEXT

Will you operate in this role: Frequently (once a week or more often)? Intensively (on 4 or more days in a 30day period)? Overnight (between 2am and 6am)?

Will you operate in any of the following specified places? School Academy Children Centre

Will you operate in this specified place: Frequently (once a week or more often)? Intensively (on 4 or more days in a 30day period)? Overnight (between 2am and 6am)?

Will you be supervised at all times during this role? Within Canoeing Unsupervised is defined as being out of sight or hearing of someone who has a DBS Enhanced Disclosure and Barred List Check
