704-706 North 5th Street 704 North 4th Street This property known as the Barker Apartment was originally owned by John C. Pierik, a Springfield druggist. In 1915 it was purchased by Abraham and Flora Barker and modified into the four unit apartment building it is today. The apartments have beautiful wooden archways and crown molding. The expansive front porches on both the first and second floors add to the open, spacious feel of each unit. The Fever River Research identified this property as a potential candidate for National Register of Historic Sites. 704 North 4th Street Edwards Place is a stately mansion with a wide porch supported by graceful Corinthian columns, wide eaves, and an ornamental cupola. This Italianate home was built in 1833 and is the oldest house in the city still standing on its original grounds. Prominent citizens such as Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas were entertained here with lavish dinner parties. It is one of two homes in Enos Park on the National Register of Historic Sites.

816 North 5th Street 821 North 5th Street This is one of two high style brick Italianate homes along North 5th Street. It was built for William Jayne whose father, Gershom Jayne, was the first doctor in Springfield. William was a two term mayor of Springfield. The story is told that Abe Lincoln ducked out of the rain into this house while it was being constructed in1859. He talked with the workers and moved on after the storm had passed. The Fever River Research identified this home as a potential candidate for the National Register of Historic Sites. 821 North 5th Street This two-story wooden frame, Italianate home was built in 1881. Guy Mathis, who lived here with his wife Grace, was Springfield's first official photographer. The Lincoln Presidential Library has a collection of 1700 photographs taken by Mathis at the turn of the 20th Century. He is also recognized for having opened the first Springfield automobile dealership in 1903. This home has been identified as a potential Springfield Landmark.

900 North 5th Street 901 North 5th Street This home was built in 1884 and is a potential candidate for the National Register of Historic Sites. It is a unique two story Cross Plan house. One-story Cross Plan dwellings were typically occupied by working class families. Larger two-story models proved attractive to more affluent, middle class families. This home is one of only four found along 5th Street among the high style Italianate and Queen Anne homes of the upper, middle class families. 901 North 5th Street This house was built in 1896 and purchased by Henry Brandenburg, a roadmaster for the St. Louis, Chicago and St. Paul Railroad. He passed it to his son, Wallace Brandenburg, a fireman for the railroad, then to E. C. Brandenburg, a trainmaster. Bay windows, turrets, stained glass windows, a steep pitched roof, and ornate porches are all prominent features of this revitalized Queen Anne style home. This house has been identified in the Fever River Research as a potential Springfield Landmark property.
