Unit Two: Fahrenheit 451 Overview/Objectives: Students will continue reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, analyzing the character development and the author’s use of literary elements and devices in developing themes in the story.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 3 Today we will: Discuss pages 119-130 of Fahrenheit 451 Analyze how the author uses literary devices to develop a theme. Meet in literature circles You will need: Your copy of Fahrenheit 451 Part Three Packet Literature Circle Tasks Sheets Literature Circle Novel Pen or pencil BELLRINGER “Think About It” “He burnt the bedroom walls and the cosmetics chest because he wanted to change everything…” (116)

Review Last week, we completed part two and analyzed Montag’s struggle to understand knowledge. This week, we will read and discuss part three which focuses on Montag’s decision to rebel against his current society and try to begin again.

Whole Class Discussion Pages 119-130 (121-130) Where does Montag go next? What is his state of mind? What is the significance of the kids in the Beetle? What do they want to do? How do they affect Montag? 5 minutes

Work with a partner… With your partner, complete the first analysis chart on your Anchor Text Theme Tracker Next, answer questions on your Part Three Split Page Notes 15 minutes

Literature Circles Directions Begin with the Summarizer reading the summary to the group. Next, the Discussion Director should lead the group with the questions he/she has prepared.. Each group member should then share key points of his/her job task for the week. After each member has shared, he/she should complete the self-evaluation section at the bottom of the task sheet and the Discussion Director should complete the Weekly Assignment Check. Finally, group members choose tasks for the next meeting and make any necessary adjustments to the reading assignments. Staple all of the weekly worksheets together and turn them in.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6 Today we will: BELLRINGER Turn in all items due. Take a test on Part Three of Fahrenheit 451 Turn in Part Three packet You will need: Your copy of Fahrenheit 451 Part Three Packet Pen or pencil BELLRINGER Turn in all items due. Prepare for your test.

Part Three Test ASSESSMENT This is an assessment and counts as a quiz grade. You will have only this class period to complete the quiz. You must do your own work. If you talk to a neighbor, you will receive a zero. If you look at a neighbor’s test, you will receive a zero and be written up. When you are finished, bring your test to the teacher and you may begin reading Part Three: Burning Bright
