How to Initiate a Reserve Request Part 2 of the Series on Reserves Using Agent VERSO

Do a Search for the Item in the Catalog Step 1: Do a Search for the Item in the Catalog

Results Possibility 1: A search by topic may result in a list Results Possibility 1: A search by topic may result in a list. Just click on the title to bring up the individual item detail record.

Results Possibility 2: A search by the full title may result in display of the Item Detail, instead of a list of items from which to choose. Here is an example of an Item Detail screen.

Note whether any copies are available Note whether any copies are available. If they are, you may reserve the title by clicking “Reserve Title” in the Menu Bar located in the upper right hand corner of the Item Record. Step 2: Click ReserveTitle

A new window will pop up. Step 3: Select the patron’s User’s Group, then enter their ID or Last Name in the blank space given. Default is All Groups, which works just fine.

Selecting the Patron’s User’s Group

Enter the Patron’s User ID Click Submit. A new window will pop up.

Step 4: Select the Pickup Location Caution: Sometimes your selection does not “stick.” Double check the pickup location before leaving this screen.

Click Submit Verify Add This is where you can type a message to the filling librarian – such as “Please overnight this, Thanks!” Add

Step 5: Close the Window After clicking Submit on the previous screen, this is what appears. To close the screen, you can click either Submit or Close, and the window will close. Whichever one you choose will not affect whether your Reserve is posted in the Reserves List.

Step 6: Verify the Patron’s Record Go to Circulation and look up the patron’s record, to be sure the Reserve is showing up. Or, if you have made an error, you may delete it here, and start over.

If you wish, you may check the Reserves List, and click on View Reserves to verify how the Reserve you placed appears.

The individual Reserve record displays the Patron’s name, ID, and phone number. In this example, you can also see the Pickup Location and the Date Placed.

Simply click Close in the upper right hand corner, to return to the previous screen. Requesting the Reserve is now complete.

After you have placed the Reserve, keep a watch every day on your item by checking the Reserves List to see when and by whom it is filled. Hopefully, other librarians will be diligent in filling reserves, but it doesn’t always happen. If you notice that only one library has the item available, you may want to email the library director, to let him or her know that you have requested a Reserve item.

If no one fills your Reserve request, it will expire in 5 days If no one fills your Reserve request, it will expire in 5 days. If this happens, you will be unable to place another request for the same item for the same patron. To clear up this situation, it is necessary to go into your patron’s record and DELETE the Reserve. To accomplish this, simply click the Delete link to the right of the item listing for the Reserve request.

This tutorial is presented by Jennifer Carless, Director of Library Services for Keiser University’s Orlando campus.
