Lauren Levin Personality Can be understood by identifying traits, by probing mental conflicts and dynamics, by noting the effects of prior learning and social situations, and by knowing how people perceive themselves.

Never been a simple explanation. Personality is a person’s unique and relatively stable behavior patters. Psychologists use interviews, direct observation, questionnaires, and projective tests to measure and assess personality. Our behavior is influenced by self-monitoring, the process of observing, regulating, and controlling personal image we display to others.

Personality types Extrovert and Introvert reflect a lot from how we present ourselves. Whether we keep to ourselves our have confidence. Self esteem, where it be low or high can really impact the way a person behaves. That kind of self evaluation can create a way of living that a person can adapt to.

Theories Freud said that the unconscious played a large role in behavior His interest in dreams lead him to his ideas about the id, ego, and super ego. Carl Jung challenged a lot of his theories, with ideas about persona, anima, and animus.

Humanistic Theories Humanistic theories of personality emphasize the uniqueness and richness of being human. Self-actualization is becoming, in a creative way, the person you are capable of being. Self efficiency refers to a person’s beliefs about his or her own abilities in a given situation.

More Clarifying Self-concept refers to how we view ourselves where as self-esteem refers to how much we value ourselves. Self-understanding can be divided into two parts: the me and the I. Me- the physical, active, social and psychological self. I-the interpretation and coordination of the four parts of the me.

Nutshell We develop a lot of characteristics from the people that we surround ourselves with. This can have either a major or minor impac on how we interpret certain things, making up certain behavioral patterns in which we react, and act a certain way. Our traits, characters and temperaments are composed of all different things that make up our personality.
