David Kennedy’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy aims to deter violent behavior and ensure consequences for offenders who persist. NOPD’s Multi-Agency Gang Unit coordinates law enforcement efforts to focus on groups of offenders responsible for the majority of violent crime. CeaseFire Central City uses street-level outreach and conflict mediation to reduce homicide and gun violence. As of September 19, no murders in target area in 174 days; no shootings in target area in 47 days. By laying out a series of strategic priorities for youth violence prevention, the PLAYbook targets resources toward young people’s most pressing needs. By establishing a citywide goal to improve youth safety, the PLAYbook sets a benchmark to track the impact of youth violence prevention activities on young people’s lives.
