Display Screen Equipment Or Are you sitting comfortably? Toolbox Talk

Outcomes of Session Understand the importance of maintaining correct posture whilst working at a computer Set out your workstation correctly Adjust your chair correctly Help a colleague adjust their chair Understand the importance of screen breaks

How We Sit If we were asked to sit like this, how many of us would without complaint? Yet a lot of us do everyday, all day.

Take a closer look at our backs

Did you know? For every inch we hold our heads forward, it can increase the weight of our head on the spine by an additional 10 pounds.

Is your chair supporting you? Adjust your chair height so your feet are firmly supported by the floor (or a foot rest) and your thighs are parallel to the ground. Adjust the backrest so that it supports your lower back. The backrest (not your arms) should support your torso weight.

Desk space When typing, your wrists should be in line with your forearms and not bent up, down, or to the side. Your keyboard should be directly centred in front of you. Place any devices you use frequently, such as your mouse and keyboard, within easy reach.
