TEAM AWESOME (Sixth Sense) Future of Technology BY: Hayko Yesiltepe Joshua Novelline Juliane Czapla

What is a computer? The word computer was originally a job title given to people who had to perform repetitive calculations. Now the definition of a computer is seen as: “an electronic device designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations.” http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/computer?s=t

History Computers have not always been what we know today. Many of us lived through the era of the IBM and that wasn’t that long ago. What you’re about to see is a great range regarding the advances of computer technology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM

First Generation 1940-1956 First computer invented was the ENIAC in 1946, it mostly served its purpose for the US ARMY. UNIVAC came shortly after, in1951, and it was the first commercialized computer. Both computers were massive and could only resolve one function at a time. Inputs were either paper cards or punched tape and the output would be in the form of printouts. They used vacuum tubes for the circuits and magnetic drums for memory. http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Hardware_Software/2002/FiveGenerations.asp

Second Generation 1956-1963 Transistors were invented in 1947, allowed the computers to be more compact, faster and more energy efficient. Programming languages such as COBOL and FORTRAN were also discovered at this time. The memory was no longer stored in a magnetic drum but in magnetic core. http://www.free-photos.biz/images/science/computer_science/computer_transistor_1965.jpg http://www.computerhistory.org/semiconductor/assets/images/400x400/1970_1_1.jpg http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Hardware_Software/2002/FiveGenerations.asp

The first successful integrated circuit was demonstrated in 1958. Third Generation 1964-1971 The first successful integrated circuit was demonstrated in 1958. Keyboards and monitors started being used for inputs and outputs instead of punched cards and print outs. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dcN54UBRGo0/TjKeSf74xOI/AAAAAAAAACw/qT-MQye8KGo/s1600/integrated-circuit.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit#Terminology http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards/keyboard/devices/7288 http://celebrating200years.noaa.gov/magazine/tsunami_database/NOAApunchcard_576.jpg

Fourth Generation 1971-Present The Microprocessor was invented in the early 1970s and it is an integrated circuit that contains ALL functions of a CPU. The difference in size from what had been previously invented was tremendous. With this new device IBM (1981) and MAC (1984) invented the first home computers https://www.google.com/webhp?rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS411&sourceid=chrome-instant&ix=seb&ie=UTF-8&ion=1#hl=en&sugexp=efis&gs_nf=1&tok=RSxITsKCWPtbTivlyer6jQ&pq=google&cp=13&gs_id=24&xhr=t&q=define+microprocessor&pf=p&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS411&sclient=psy-ab&oq=define+microp&aq=&aqi=&aql=&gs_l=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=144acd61eed23f45&ix=seb&ion=1&biw=1280&bih=632 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/52/Intel_4004.jpg http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Hardware_Software/2002/FiveGenerations.asp

WHAT IS COMING IN THE NEAR FUTURE??

The Sixth Sense Technology Created by Pranav Mistry at Professor and student at MIT Technology is a addition to the 5 senses everyone human has. Bringing the digital world to physical world and vise versa through gestures.

The Vision Pranav wants to bring the two worlds (digital and physical) together and make them able to interact with each other through gestures. He conducted many experiments where he was bringing the physical world to digital world Through many trial prototypes he finally was able to find a device that fits his vision. http://www.suntiva.com/userfiles/image167_lg.jpg
