Year 11 Information evening Welcome parents/guardians Year 11 Information evening September 2018 ‘..a parent’s active and informed involvement in their child’s education is the single most important factor at GCSE’ Ofsted

Year 11 Information evening The purpose of this evening… To help you support your child’s results. To ensure you are well informed of key dates To give you information about study skills To ensure that you understand the importance of attendance To find out more information on Post 16 options

Context Realistically courses will end at Easter We are 8 months before the actual examination period begins 9 weeks before the mocks begin Pressure from lots of subjects to attend revision/catch up sessions Some assessment has already taken place for those subjects with coursework Students should be far more focused on what they want to do next – progression at 16 Students are going to feel more pressured

DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION 2017 Attendance matters! “73% OF PUPILS WHO HAVE OVER 95% ATTENDANCE ACHIEVE FIVE OR MORE GCSES AT GRADES A* TO C (OR EQUIVALENT)” DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION 2017 IF AN EMPLOYEE TOOK ½ A DAY A WEEK OFF, HOW MUCH WORK WOULD NOT GET DONE AND WHAT WOULD THE RESPONSE BE? THAT IS THE SAME AS 90% ATTENDANCE
