The Mystery of Egyptian Hieroglyphics For many thousands of years, people were not able to translate the Egyptian hieroglyphics. There was no way to know what they meant. Until the Rosetta Stone!

Activity for Today Read the section called “Unlocking a Mystery” on page 92 with your group. Using the worksheet, respond to this question: Why was the discovery of the Rosetta Stone important? The British museum where the Rosetta lies has lost the information plaque that goes with it! They have asked you to create a new one so that visitors to the museum will know what the Rosetta Stone is the story of how it was found (include the date) why it is an important discovery  ***AT least 5 sentences!

The Importance of the Rosetta Stone It translated hieroglyphs (Egyptian language) into other languages so that modern people could understand what the hieroglyphs meant. It allowed us to read what the ancient Egyptians wrote and know their history.
