Excretory System Notes

Functions 1. Collect water and filter body fluids. 2. Remove and concentrate waste products from body fluids and return other substances to body fluids as necessary for homeostasis. 3. Eliminate excretory products from the body.

Organs Kidneys- bean-shaped urinary system organ that is made up of about 1 million nephrons and filters blood, producing urine. ureter - tube that carries urine from each kidney to the bladder.

Organs bladder - elastic, muscular organ that holds urine until it leaves the body through the urethra. urethra - tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body.

Vein Artery Kidney Ureter Urinary Bladder Urethra

Vocabulary urine - wastewater that contains excess water, salts, and other wastes that are not reabsorbed by the body. nephron - tiny filtering unit of the kidney. homeostasis - The ability to maintain a relatively constant internal environment.
