Defining Effective and Identifying Observation Rubric Titles Module 3 Activity Overview Approximate Time: ___ minutes Module Outcomes Create group “effective teaching” posters Create a statement that reflects attributes of effective teachers Identify rubric titles Explore bodies of research that support rubric title Handout(s) M3 Additional Materials Sticky notes Markers (enough for all participants) Chart paper Purpose Participants will work within small groups to reach consensus and create a paragraph that describes effective teachers. Subsequently, the entire team will analyze all groups’ paragraphs to (1) identify commonalities that will ultimately become the titles of the observation rubrics to be constructed and (2) develop a final statement that articulates the LEA’s definition of effective teaching.

Module 2 Review Individuals constructed 4-5 statements that expressed thoughts regarding the characteristics of effective teachers Module 2 concluded with the construction of statements that describe effective teaching based on the AQTS and other bodies of research.

Group Statement Work together to construct a group statement by reaching a consensus. Participants will now use the statements previously crafted to construct a general paragraph that represents a consensus of ideals that describe effective teaching.   It is suggested that groups contain 2-5 participants.
