“The Necessity of Giving!” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

This message is clear… The need of giving; however, evidently is not so clear to many who call themselves Christians…

Almost every week I receive through the mail material telling of “a plan” that is guaranteed to increase the giving and budget of the local church…

Johnny came home from church with a fist full of money Johnny came home from church with a fist full of money. When asked about it he responded, “Well, we were sitting there in church and all of the sudden this…”

to better understand the necessity behind giving to God Purpose: to better understand the necessity behind giving to God

I Giving is Necessary for the One Who GIVES A. Giving is a Command

1 Corinthians 16:2 “On the first day of every week let each one of you put aside and save, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come.”

I Giving is Necessary for the One Who GIVES A. Giving is a Command B. By Giving We Are Blessed

Proverbs 3:9-10 “Honor the Lord from your wealth, and from the first of all your produce; so your barn will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.”

Proverbs 11:24-25 “There is one who scatters; yet, increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, but it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous and he who waters will himself be watered.”

Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.”

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, measured to you in return.”

2 Corinthians 9:6 “Now this I say, he who sows sparingly, and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully.”

I Giving is Necessary for the One Who GIVES A. Giving is a Command B. By Giving We Are Blessed C. We Actually Own Nothing

Psalm 24:1 “The earth is the Lord’s and all it contains. The World and those who dwell in it.”

Deuteronomy 8:18 “But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth…”

I Giving is Necessary for the One Who GIVES A. Giving is a Command B. By Giving We Are Blessed C. We Actually Own Nothing D. We Owe All to God

II Giving is Necessary for the One Who RECEIVES A. There Are Those in Need

“…contributing to the needs of the saints…” Romans 12:13 “…contributing to the needs of the saints…”

II Giving is Necessary for the One Who RECEIVES A. There Are Those in Need B. There’s the Need to Extend the Church

III Giving is Necessary for the One Who RECEIVES A. God Gave His Son B. God Gave the Gospel

In like manner, God has given us a pure, white, genuine stone…

If you want to be rich = GIVE If you want to be poor = GRASP If you want abundance = SCATTER If you want to be needy = HOARD

Conclusion and Summary Let me liken those who see no need in giving to the Lord to that of a hog… He who sows like a hog will reap like a hog. He who places confidence/trust in hoarding up this world’s goods will reap what they sow. Brethren and friend, in view of the indescribable gift of GRACE, let’s give thanks for the privilege and opportunity to see/understand that giving is a necessity!
