Management Vs Leadership Management is concerned with achieving results by effectively obtaining, deploying, utilizing & controlling all resources required. Leadership deals with ability to influence a group towards achievement of goals.

Definition Trait that influences others to accomplish an objective. An individual influences group of other individuals. Knowledge & skills contribute together towards the process of leadership.

Boss or leader Assigned leadership – When you are asked to accomplish certain tasks and objectives in the organization. Emergent Leadership – When leadership makes followers want to achieve high goals. One gets Assigned leadership by your position & you display emergent Leadership by influencing people to do great things.

Bass Theory of Leadership Three basic ways to explain how to become leaders- Personality traits – trait theory. Crisis or important event may lead to rise to occasion which brings out extraordinary leadership qualities – Great event theory. People can learn leadership skills – Transformational theory.

Principles of leadership Know yourself and seek self improvement. Be technically proficient. Seek responsibility and take responsibility for your actions. Make sound and timely decisions. Be a good role model. Know your people and look for their well being. Develop a sense of responsibility.

BE- KNOW -DO BE a professional. BE a professional who possess good traits.

KNOW the four factors of leadership. KNOW yourself. KNOW human nature. KNOW your job. DO provide direction. DO implement. DO motivate.
