Patteson is about… POP ART (1950’s-1960’s) Essential Details Andy Warhol Roy Lichtenstein Robert Indiana Persistence of Memory American artist known images of comics and celebrities American artist known for his images of comics, often including word bubbles American artist best known for his “Love” inspired art Almost always used letters or numbers in his brightly colored art His brightly colored images were very often repetitive in nature Images very often imitated the newspaper print style of dots Also know for his sculptures Is considered as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century Usually used a primary color palette So What? (What’s important to understand about this?) Pop's reintroduction of recognizable images was a major shift for the direction of modern art. The Pop Art movement used commercial products and celebrities to symbolize popular culture. Most were images in advertising, television, product packaging, celebrities, and comic strips. By doing this Pop Artists tried to raise popular culture to the level of fine art.
