Synopsis 30 years after the destruction of the second Death Star, the last remaining Jedi, Luke Skywalker, has disappeared without a trace. In his absence, the evil First Order has risen from the ashes of the Galactic Empire in order to destroy the New Republic. When Finn, a deserter from the First Order meets Rey, an orphan scavenger from Jakku, they flee the planet and cross paths with Han Solo, who brings them to the Resistance for safety. With the help of his young allies, Han and the Resistance fight back in order to protect the galaxy from the First Order and search for Luke.

Dynamic character Finn is a dynamic character because he exhibits significant change and growth throughout Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In the beginning of the story, Finn is a Storm Trooper of the First Order. When he is ordered to kill innocent villagers, he refuses and promptly deserts the First Order.

Dynamic Character When Finn crash lands on Jakku, he meets Rey, an orphan scavenger who helps him escape Jakku because he lied and told her that he was with the Resistance. During their escape, they meet Han Solo, who agrees to take them to the Resistance. Upon arriving, Finn attempts to flee as he is still scared of the First Order.

Dynamic Character When The First Order attacks and kidnaps Rey, Finn instinctively helps the Resistance coordinate a rescue mission during their attack on Starkiller Base. During Finn and Rey’s escape, Finn suffers severe injuries when he confronts Kylo Ren in order to protect Rey. Finn is a dynamic character because he undergoes drastic change in attitude and personality. He transitions from a coward and a liar to a heroic and courageous individual.

Static Character Kylo Ren is a static character because he demonstrates no significant growth or change throughout Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Throughout the film, Kylo is dead set on locating Luke Skywalker and living up to the legacy of his grandfather, Darth Vader. All of Kylo’s major actions revolve around the search for Luke: searching for BB-8, capturing Rey, and confronting Han Solo.

Static Character Kylo’s dedication to his grandfather’s legacy never wavers throughout the story. In the film, it is shown that Kylo always strives to live up to Vader’s accomplishments. By the end of the film, Kylo’s motives, attitude, and character traits have not changed.
