Higher-order Thinking

4 Higher-order Thinking
Bloom’s Taxonomy Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating Lower-order Thinking Higher-order Thinking

5 Not so good discussion questions:
Identify the main character of the story. Define the meaning of exposition. Recall what we talked about last class. What is the article about? In what ways would you improve this thesis and why? Evaluate the relationship between Holden and his sister Phoebe. How does it relate to the theme of the novel? Interpret what Daisy meant when she said, “And I hope she’ll be a fool -- that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”

6 Star Wars Lesson Example
Remembering: Define what is evil about Darth Vader. Write an original song to describe your feelings. Understanding: Identify each character as good or evil and describe the qualities as they relate to the characters in the Hunger Games. Application: Write a travel log for the places Luke visited in his galaxy. Analysis: Compare bee drones to the storm troopers and prepare an oral presentation to explain your findings. Evaluation: Explain what the expression, “May the force be with you” means to you. Creating: Develop a game, which has as its theme, “good vs. evil”. Bloom's Taxonomy According to Finding Nemo

7 Bloom Your Own Questions
Get into pairs. Using the Bloom’s Taxonomy verb list, you and your partner will create at least 2 questions for each order of thinking beginning with the lowest. After you finish the first level, continue on to the envelope marked as the second level, and so forth. Continue working until you have created questions for all 6 orders of thinking.
