Differences in Second Semester In first semester we “practiced” the three components of the AP Seminar Exam, in second semester you are taking the actual AP test. This means I cannot give you direct feedback on your paper or presentation. This would be like asking the teacher if your answer to a test question is correct. Types of feedback that are allowed: 1) Peer review 2) Full class instruction from the teacher

Second Semester Grading Most of the projects you will complete this semester are part of the AP Exam. They will not be graded for content as part of the class. Your class grade this semester will mainly be based on your successful completion of milestone tasks as part of these projects and your completion of the projects on time. Therefore, please keep in mind that if you earn a 100% on the IRR, for example, in class this simply means you submitted the paper on time and in an acceptable format. It does not reflect the quality of the paper.

Performance Task 1 – Brief Overview Performance Task 1 – Team Project and Presentation Work in teams of 3-5 to identify, investigate and analyze an academic or real world problem or issue. Each team considers options or alternatives from multiple perspectives, synthesizes a unique solution and presents their argument in a multimedia presentation. Individual Research Report - 1200 words Team Multimedia Presentation and Defense – 8 to 10 minutes

Performance Task 1 – Brief Overview You and your group need to complete the following: 1) The team identifies a research question with four perspectives. 2) Each team member researches and writes an individual research report from their assigned perspective. 3) The team reviews the research reports and synthesizes an argument or solution for your research question. 4) The team creates a presentation to summarize their argument or solution. 5) The team presents to the class.

Developing A Research Question In AP Seminar good research questions: 1) Require a judgment or evaluation to be made 2) Are researchable (relevant and credible sources can be found) 3) Involve genuine points of ongoing debate 4) Allow for multiple perspectives 5) Do not contain multiple, nested questions

Today in Class 1) Work with your group to identify a good research question. You may not repeat a research question from first semester. 2) Make sure you can identify 4 distinct perspectives within this question and discuss which group member will investigate which perspective. 3) Remember you do not need an argument at this time, just a question. 4) Conduct preliminary research. Based on this research you may decide to refine your research question or modify your perspectives.
