Japan attacks US A. 30s-40s: Japan creating Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere – US worried B. 1940-1941: US sends aid to KMT in China, stops supplies to Japan C. 12/7/1941: Japanese warplanes bomb US Naval ships at Pearl Harbor, Hawai‘i – Admiral Yamamoto leads surprise attack D. President Roosevelt asks for a declaration of war on Japan, calling the event “A date which will live in infamy” II. The Pacific War A. Jan 1942: Japan attacks US in Guam, Wake Island, Philippines B. Feb 1942: Japan attacks British in Malaya, Hong Kong, Burma US joins the Allied Powers C. War Crime: Japan puts Allied POWs on the Bataan Death March (16K killed) D. US interns 110K Japanese-Americans
