Three Different Levels Government Three Different Levels

3 Levels There are 3 levels of government. Each one is stronger than the other. Each one makes difference choices for us. They are:

Federal State LOCAL

What Does Local Government Do? Maintain the roads in town. They create city parks. They provide help like policemen, firefighters, and judges.

Who’s in Charge of Local Government? Mayors are in charge of your city. They are like the President. A City Council helps the mayor make decisions for your town. The City Council is made up of people from your city.

What Does the State Government Do? Distributes money received from the federal government. Maintains state highways. Determines the minimum wage. Issues licenses. Sets standards for things like pollution, worker safety, state taxes, animal cruelty laws, etc.

Who’s in Charge of the State Government? The governor is in charge of the state government. Our governor is helped by the senate and the legislature.

What does the Federal Government Do? Manages trade with other countries. Collects taxes to run government. Provides money to schools. Protects country through the military. Manages energy resources such as coal. Makes sure transportation and roads are kept in working order.

What Does the Federal Government Do? Makes sure food and medicine are safe for people. Makes and protects national parks. Guarantees fair work laws and fair pay. Gives help to veterans and their families. Funds housing projects so people can have homes.

Who is in Charge of the Federal Government? The President leads the Federal Government. He has a cabinet, which is people that help him make good decisions about our country. The President can make decisions but Congress has to approve them, too!
