PERSONIFICATION – giving human qualities to a non-human object When Mrs. London looked up at the night sky she saw the moon dancing through the clouds.
Mrs. London likes lemon lollipops. ALLITERATION – at least two words in a sentence or phrase have the same beginning sound Mrs. London likes lemon lollipops.
ONOMATOPOEIA – a word which imitates the natural sound of things Mrs. London ran away from the buzzing bees.
HYPERBOLE – an exaggeration of ideas for the sake of emphasis Mrs. London loves chocolate so much that she can eat 1 million Hershey Kisses while her students are at their special.
IDIOM – words or phrases that are not meant to be taken literally Mrs. London warned her students that anyone who forgets to bring in a homework assignment will be in hot water.
