Se7en OTS analysis By Harvey Helmer

Mise-En-Scene The lighting throughout the OTS is reasonably light which contrasts with the props such as the razor (shown here) which imply danger, often associated with the darkness. The mood is tense as the lighter shots cut sharply into white on black text that jumps around disjointedly.

Cinematography To help build tension all of the shots within the OTS are close-ups, often extreme. This discomforts the viewer as it makes them feel too close to the action and brings uncertainty about what is happening as not many details are seen To add to the disjointed nature of the tension being built, many shots are superimposed over others giving a sense that the person we are watching may not be completely sane

Sound The sound within the OTS is disjunct and quiet which builds the suspense as at random intervals there are slightly louder sounds that come and go in an attempt to shock the user and slightly break the build of tension however the aftermath of these sounds brings yet more suspense as not much happens to coincide with the sound meaning it was just a false alarm. This could possibly alert the viewer that if that was simply a false alarm then what will a real alarm be like?
