Title I Information Our school participates in a federal program, under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) law, referred to as Title I, Part A. The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was re- authorized as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in December 2015. ESSA replaced NCLB and differs from it by giving states more flexibility to use accountability systems that reflect local values and goals. The US Department of Education approved California’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) state accountability plan on July 12, 2018. California’s accountability system is focused on improving classroom learning for all students and especially those that need extra help in achieving success.

Title I Information Title I monies: are allocated to sites based on socio-economic status to assist students who are having difficulty meeting grade level standards. are used to support staff development and build parent capacity. may also provide supplemental materials, services, and activities such as technology, intervention software, and instructional materials for reading, math, and science, with the intent to provide supplemental support to the lowest achieving students. may also provide academic support staff (i.e., intervention teacher) and instructional aides to work directly with students.

Parent Leadership School Site Council (SSC) is a group of school staff, parents/community members, and the principal. SSC works collaboratively to develop, review, and evaluate the school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). If you are interested in participating, please fill out an SSC nomination form. Parents will nominate and elect parents/community members. English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) advises the principal and SSC on programs and services for English Learners. The ELAC is an advisory committee and is not a decision-making body. If you are interested in participating, please fill out an ELAC nomination form. Parents of English Learners will elect parents to ELAC. African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) engages African American parents to advise the principal and SSC on programs for African American students. AAPAC is an advisory committee and is not a decision- making body. If you are interested in participating, please fill out an AAPAC nomination form.

Single Plan for Student Achievement School Site Council members, school staff, community stakeholders, students, and parents collaborate to develop, approve, monitor, review, and evaluate the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). Operating under a school-wide program allows schools to expend Title I funds in order to improve the instructional program for all students, with a specific focus on the underachieving students based on a comprehensive needs assessment. Parent advisory groups will continuously monitor the implementation of the plan and budgeted proposed expenditures.

Single Plan for Student Achievement (cont’d) As the State develops guidance for the newly approved state accountability plan, consistent with ESSA, we are working closely with site-based stakeholders and district staff to revise our school plan to include: Strategies, policies, and practices that utilize evidence-based practices and have the greatest likelihood of ensuring that all student groups will demonstrate continuous improvement, based on the District aligned goals and LCAP accountability. High quality professional development for school staff that will lead to building staff capacity and improve the instructional program. Strategies to promote effective parental engagement in the school.
