2 What is the School Site Council The school site council is a group of teachers, parents, classified employees, and students that works with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs, school budgets, and the school plan. teachersparentsprincipal

3 What Is the Responsibility of SSC Work as a team!! Recommend the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) to the local governing board for approval Monitor implementation of the school plan (SPSA) Evaluate the effectiveness of the school plan (SPSA) Review student data!! Annually review and revise the plan and proposed expenditures of Categorical funds Regularly attend scheduled SSC meetings Review the recommendations of the English Learner Advisory Committee

4 Who Can Participate in SSC Members are elected by their peers. For example, parents elect parent representatives and teachers elect teachers The committee is made up of “elected” members, but anyone can attend the meetings (meetings are open to the public)

5 SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL MEMBERS MUST BE ELECTED At the high school level, there must be at least 12 members on the council. All parents of students being served have an opportunity to present their views to the Committee. Larger councils can be established, but composition rules need to be followed closely to assure the council guarantees parity between school staff and parents.

7 What is the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) The Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) is a plan that all schools receiving Categorical funds through the Consolidated Application are required to have. The SPSA describes all of the programs that exist and a guide to improve the academic performance of all students

8 What is the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) The plan describes the academic performance goals of the school, and outlines what and how the school will do to meet those goals The plan addresses how the funds will help to meet those goals The goals of the school plan are aligned to the goals of the District’s plan
