For today, 02/13 Get out some note- taking apparatus How presentation will benefit audience: Adult learners are more interested in a subject if they know how or why it is important to them. Presenter’s level of expertise in the subject: Briefly state your credentials in this area, or explain why participants should listen to you.

Human Development Index (HDI) HDI considers development to be a function of 3 things: (1.) Decent standard of living (2.) Long and healthy life (3.) Access to knowledge Each country receives a total score between 0 and 1 and is grouped in one of four classes: (1.) Very high (2.) High (3.) Medium (4.) Low How presentation will benefit audience: Adult learners are more interested in a subject if they know how or why it is important to them. Presenter’s level of expertise in the subject: Briefly state your credentials in this area, or explain why participants should listen to you.

HDI Ranks, 2013

Decent Standard of Living (1.) Income Gross National Income (GNI) Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (2.) Economic Structure Primary, Secondary, Tertiary (3.) Productivity Value added (4.) Consumer goods Transportation and communication No single indicator can perfectly measure the level of a country’s development. Few may be starving in a developing country with a GNI p/c of $4000; not everyone is wealthy in a developed country with a GNI p/c of $40,000. If only a few people receive much of the GNI, then the S.O.L. for the majority may be lower than the average figure implies. How presentation will benefit audience: Adult learners are more interested in a subject if they know how or why it is important to them. Presenter’s level of expertise in the subject: Briefly state your credentials in this area, or explain why participants should listen to you.

Access to Knowledge (2.) Quality of school (1.) Quantity of school Global Mean for a 25 year old (today): 11 years vs. 6 years Expected Years for a 5 year old (today) is 16 vs. 11 (2.) Quality of school Pupil/Teacher Ratio (3.) Literacy Rate How presentation will benefit audience: Adult learners are more interested in a subject if they know how or why it is important to them.
