Presentation transcript:

Feldman Art Criticism Method Art Criticism is learning from works of art. It entails describing, analyzing, interpreting and judging. Each day this week we will take each section and go in more depth on one piece of art work. Describe: take an inventory of what objects are in the picture. List all 7 elements of art & write where you see each being used in this work of art.

Art Critique, Day 2: ANALYZE Analyze- look at how the elements of art are organized (first, list the principles of art and tell me how they are used)

Art Critique, Day 3: INTERPRETATION Interpretation: Discovering the meaning, mood, or idea in the work. For this part, take what you have already learned from the piece of art and identify the expressive qualities- meaning the feelings, ideas, or moods communicated to the viewer. Imagine you are actually there in this scene, how do you feel, what are you thinking, how do the other people in this picture feel? Art Critique, Day 3: INTERPRETATION

Art Critique, Day 4: JUDGING Judging- This is the final step of art criticism. In this step you are answering the question “Is this piece of art successful based on the literal characteristics, the design and the expressive qualities?” You should defend your answer!! Art Critique, Day 4: JUDGING
